Competitor scan — who else sells this to small demolition / abatement contractors (2026-09-15)

Ordered by Omar (voice, 2026-09-15). Written by the Makki Hive Chief of Staff seat. Method: four parallel web-research passes on 2026-09-15, vendor pages first, G2 / Capterra / Software Advice second. Every external fact carries its URL. Where a vendor does not publish a price it says not published; where only a third party quotes a figure it is marked third-party estimate and is not the vendor's number. Our side: everything about Makki's portal comes from profile/Fieldflo_vs_Makki_Comparison.md, profile/Walkthrough_2026-09-10.md and BUILD_PLAN.md. All portal data is demo / mock. Prices below are in USD unless marked CAD.

Count: 15 field-ops / job-management / safety / ERP products in Table A (incl. Fieldflo), 5 more Canadian / Alberta products in Table B, 5 more AI-for-contractors offerings in Table C. 25 named products in total.

A. Field ops, job management, safety and ERP (the list Omar named)

Where Makki's portal wins

Each line ties a real feature in our build (sources: profile/Walkthrough_2026-09-10.md, profile/Fieldflo_vs_Makki_Comparison.md) to a real competitor fact above.

  1. The owner can touch it before he pays. Fieldflo refused him a demo login on the call; Procore, Buildertrend, ServiceTitan, Raken (sales-gated), SiteDocs, Corfix, eCompliance, Jonas, Sage, HCSS and SALUS are all demo-only (Table A/B). The owner's portal is live for him now at the pages.dev link, five logins, mock data (BUILD_PLAN.md §1).
  2. The hard-hat QR scan. Fieldflo demoed it and the owner said "I haven't seen anybody else incorporate that" (call notes). Of the other 24 products, none advertises a worker hard-hat QR; SiteDocs, Corfix and eCompliance use QR for forms or binders, not the man (Table A rows 11–13). We have it: QR per man, read-only scan page, archive never delete (Comparison §B row 4), and the same on every piece of equipment (Walkthrough §7).
  3. Ticket enforcement where the work happens. Raken, HCSS, SiteDocs, Corfix, Contractor Foreman and Fieldflo track certs with expiry alerts (Table A). Ours blocks the man at the crew and at the timesheet from one project-book entry, and it is proven by 56 node assertions (Comparison §D). Only Fieldflo described a comparable block on the call.
  4. Gating that is real, not a menu switch. Fieldflo showed per-tab switches; Knowify hides costs only on its Enterprise tier (https://knowify.com/pricing/); ServiceTitan gates timesheet editing. Ours: a gated role never receives the field, so the bookkeeper's payroll rows carry no rate and the crew's pages carry no $, checked in a headless browser (Walkthrough §1, §10).
  5. Seats that do the work, and answer by text. Fieldflo has no AI (call notes). Jobber, ServiceTitan, Procore, Knowify, HCSS and Housecall Pro now advertise AI, but it lives inside their app: Knowify's is questions only (https://knowify.com/ai/), Procore's agents write RFIs and daily logs for GCs (https://www.procore.com/ai/agents), ServiceTitan's office actions are "coming soon" (https://www.servicetitan.com/features/atlas), Jobber's voice needs the mobile app (https://www.getjobber.com/features/ai/). None of them lets an owner text one line and get the business number back, or drafts his invoices nightly. Ours: Assistant answers by text, Collector drafts invoices nightly, Foreman's Voice files the daily, Ticket Keeper runs weekly (BUILD_PLAN.md §3, all four built and verified on mock data).
  6. We do the setup work. Fieldflo's onboarding is "the only time Fieldflo fails is if you don't answer our calls or show up to the trainings" (call notes); ServiceTitan carries $5K–$50K implementation (third-party estimate, https://projul.com/blog/servicetitan-pricing-analysis-2026/); Premier lists $50,000 implementation (https://www.capterra.com/p/133101/Premier/). Our price includes the four-month build, then $500/month upkeep with unlimited help (MEMORY.md, Omar 2026-09-10).
  7. His brand, his own instance. Fieldflo is "a rented product… their logo dropped on it" (call notes). The owner's portal wears Makki black and gold on its own workspace, mixed with no other company's data (profile/makki.json brand + rails).
  8. Price against the trade-specific option. Fieldflo quoted the owner about $15,000 a year with no AI (call notes). Our build is $3,000 a month for four months, then $500 a month (MEMORY.md). Generic tools are cheaper per seat (Jobber from $29, Contractor Foreman from $49, Knowify from $99, Table A) but none of them is built for abatement or does the work.
  9. Verified before it is shown. Fieldflo's SMS demo broke live (call notes). Every screen of ours passes an 83-check browser run before Omar sees it (Walkthrough header).

Where we're behind

  1. Compliance depth. Fieldflo (9 years in the trade), HCSS (1,000+ safety templates, https://www.hcss.com/products/construction-safety-software/), Contractor Foreman (800+ toolbox topics, https://www.contractorforeman.com/features/) and SiteDocs / Corfix / SALUS carry JHA libraries, toolbox-talk libraries and containment / waste paperwork. We have the screens, not the library; the Safety Officer seat waits on the owner's OHS documents (BUILD_PLAN.md §3 row 7).
  2. COR / Alberta audit support. SiteDocs (AuditSoft, https://www.sitedocs.com/cor/), Safety Evolution, SALUS and SafetyStack speak COR / SECOR directly. Nothing in our build mentions COR. Not recorded as an the owner ask; worth asking him.
  3. Live QuickBooks Online. Fieldflo, Jobber, Knowify, Contractor Foreman, ServiceTitan, Buildertrend, Corfix and Raken have a working QBO link today (Table A). Ours is a "Not connected" screen until the owner clicks Allow (Walkthrough §9; BUILD_PLAN.md §4 ask 5).
  4. Real texting to the crew. Fieldflo, ServiceTitan and Contractor Foreman send SMS to workers (Table A). Ours is simulated on screen by rule until Omar approves (Walkthrough §3).
  5. GPS clock-in, photos, cost codes, change orders, Gantt, closeout. Buildertrend, Knowify, Contractor Foreman, Raken and Fieldwire have some or all of these (Table A); ours are not built (Walkthrough "Not built").
  6. Payroll link and multi-approver trail. Fieldflo demoed multi-approver payroll; Knowify syncs to QuickBooks Payroll; Corfix to Paychex / Dayforce (Table A). Ours is single-approver CSV, waiting on the owner's payroll system (Walkthrough §10).
  7. Free self-serve trials elsewhere. Jobber, Knowify, Contractor Foreman, Fieldwire, Workhub and Housecall Pro let anyone sign up today (Tables A–C). Our "touch it first" edge is against Fieldflo and the enterprise tools, not against the cheap generic ones. The stronger claim is: his data, his brand, his roles, and someone else does the setup.
  8. AI is no longer a blank field. The 2026-09-08 note said Fieldflo had "zero AI" and that was the axis to fight on. Fieldflo still has none, but Jobber, ServiceTitan, Procore, HCSS, Knowify, Housecall Pro and Fieldwire all ship or preview assistants (Tables A/C). The pitch has to say what ours does differently (text it, it drafts, it runs nightly, nothing sends without the owner), not just "we have AI."
  9. Scale and references. Fieldflo claims Northstar and "eight of the top 10 on the ENR list" (call notes); Procore has 3M+ users. We have one client and mock data. Say so.

How they present (added 2026-09-15, presentation pass on Omar's order)

What each vendor does well on its own pages: first screen, story order, proof, price, try-before-you-buy, setup and support, and how it talks to a non-technical owner. Every line below comes from a page opened from this box on 2026-09-15; the link is the page. Web search is off on this line and Jobber (getjobber.com) and Buildertrend (buildertrend.com) refuse every fetch from here (403, direct and via reader proxy), so they are not described. Nothing is guessed.

Canadian companies billed in CAD. "One call... you'll leave that conversation with a figure and a rollout timeline." (https://www.corfix.com/pricing/) No. Quote form "Migration and training are part of the subscription, not a separate line on the invoice"; support "for as long as you're a customer" (https://www.corfix.com/pricing/) Honest opt-out: "if paper is actually working for you, you probably don't need us yet" (https://www.corfix.com/pricing/)

No hidden fees. Full support." (https://www.workhub.com/) Two boxes, one number each

What this pass took for the deck (the change list is at the bottom of profile/Deck_Copy_2026-09-15.md): the "send an email" plainness line (Procore), "see for yourself" and the trial up front (SiteDocs, Contractor Foreman), the trade named in the first screen and one-pain-one-promise lines (Fieldflo), the office / site split (SiteDocs), price-first-then-what-is-included (Knowify, Procore), setup and training inside the subscription said out loud (Corfix, Contractor Foreman, HCSS), and proof on the page (all of them; ours is the verification run, since we have one client and demo data).

Not opened this pass: getjobber.com (403 on every page, direct and via r.jina.ai), buildertrend.com (403), and any Jonas / Sage / Fieldwire / eCompliance presentation page (not attempted; not close enough to matter for the deck).
